Fillings
At some point, most people develop a cavity. Dr. Smith or Dr. Day will remove your tooth decay and replace the damaged area with a filling. Metal, or amalgam, fillings were the standard for decades, but we now use all-white composite fillings. Tinted to match your natural tooth, a composite filling provides durability without sacrificing a natural appearance – and without unhealthy mercury.
Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings
- Blend with your smile
- Don’t contain metal or mercury
- Leave more tooth structure intact
- Will not change shape over time
Because composite fillings allow for less removal of healthy tooth structure, your dentist can perform more conservative repairs. A tooth-colored filling actually bonds with tooth enamel, so bacteria and food will be less likely to penetrate the tooth in the restored area. If you don’t like your dark, amalgam fillings, we can replace them with composite restorations so that you don’t have to live with a mouth full of metal.
